Leroy E. Seabaugh, 85, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
One of four children, he was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Daisy to Jessie and Opal Crites Seabaugh. He and Geraldine Maintz were married Aug. 29, 1953, in Jackson.
Leroy was raised near Daisy, where he attended the former Critesville School.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving honorably from Aug. 29, 1951, to Aug. 4, 1953. He served 17 months in Korea and was awarded a Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars; two Overseas Bars; a United Nations Service Medal; and a National Defense Service Medal.
Leroy worked 42 years at the former LaPierre-Sawyer Handle Factory in Jackson. Several of those years, he and Geraldine worked together. Leroy knew every facet of the business and was a supervisor many years, retiring in 1988.
He loved being with his family. He was an avid hunter, but especially enjoyed coon hunting and raising red beagles.
He was a lifetime member of VFW 3838 in Cape Girardeau and a member of the former Old Salem Church near Millersville.
Loving survivors include his wife of 62 years, Geraldine of Jackson; a son, Garry (Gail) Seabaugh of Jackson; two grandchildren, Ashley Seabaugh of Jackson and Jeremy (Sarah) Seabaugh of Jackson; a great-grandson, Jase Seabaugh; two sisters, Annis Heuring of Scott City and Geneva Ruesler of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Eula Seabaugh of Fulton, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was anticipating the birth of another great-grandchild in October.
He was preceded in death by an infant great-grandchild; a brother, Leo Seabaugh; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home Foundation.
