CHARLESTON -- Leonard Eugene Griggs, 73, of Water Valley, Miss., formerly of Mississippi County, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 1994, at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born June 28, 1921, in Mississippi County, the son of Leondis Nathan "Lee" and Jetty Levelle Brown Griggs.
He had lived in Water Valley since 1966 where he was employed as a heavy equipment operator in pipeline construction.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On Oct. 4, 1966, he married Mary Dollahite, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Mike Scroggins and Thomas Scroggins, both of Water Valley; three daughters, Linda Barrett and Mary Jean Adkins, both of Belleville, Ill., and Patricia Boyte, Newberry, Fla.; six brothers, Robert Lee Griggs of Mesquite, Texas, Douglass Griggs of Chicago, Nathan Griggs of Brawley, Calif., and Morris, Richard and Sam Griggs, all of Charleston; three sisters, Virginia Lee Moss of Charleston, Erma Crecelius of Avondale, Calif., and Earline Manar of Rogers, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday at 7 p.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home at Charleston.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Summers, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church here, officiating.
Burial will be in the Smith-Griggs Cemetery near Wyatt.
