Leonard Bogenpohl

Leonard William Bogenpohl, 63, of Oak Ridge passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 7, 1943, in Oak Ridge, son of William H. and Wilma I. Oehl Bogenpohl. He and Sharon Hahs were married Sept. 23, 1967, in Oak Ridge.

Leonard was a 1961 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He farmed all his life in the Oak Ridge area, and drove for Friese Trucking for a number of years.

In 1962 he joined the National Guard in Jackson and Perryville and received an honorable discharge in 1969 at the rank of staff sergeant, having received the Soldier's Medal for heroism in June 1967.

He drove a school bus 37 years for the Oak Ridge School District, receiving a special recognition plaque from the school district in 2000.

Leonard was a charter member of North Cape Girardeau County Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Oak Ridge Booster Club and Cape Girar-deau County Coon Hunters Association.

He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, was a trustee, usher, and had served on various other church committees.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years; two sons, David and Terry Bogenpohl of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Sheri (Jody) Ponder of Frohna, Mo.; his father of Oak Ridge; a brother, Gary (Janet) Bogenpohl of Oak Ridge; and a grandson, Devin Ponder of Frohna.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Roger Steinbrueck officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Leonard Bogenpohl Memorial Scholarship Fund at Oak Ridge High School, to Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedheim, or to the American Cancer Society.
