Leonard Adams

Leonard Miles Adams, 85, of Jackson died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Shawneetown, son of Arthur Z. and Carrie Mae Dambach Adams. He and Anna Elizabeth Eftink were married April 19, 1947. She died Oct. 14, 1997.

Adams was a dairy farmer 35 years at Gordonville, and continued to farm after moving to Jackson until two years ago. He was a 1939 graduate of Jackson High School.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy. He was awarded five Bronze Stars.

Adams was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; 4th Degree member Knights of Columbus Bishop Timon Council; 50-year member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson; life member VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau; member, finance officer and adjutant of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16; MFA; Missouri and National Jersey Cattle Associations; board member of Square Deal Dairy Co., and Dairymen Inc.

He managed the American Legion Friday night dances, volunteered at the Veterans Home, and was secretary of Arnsberg Cemetery Association.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Pam) and Gerald (Nancy) Adams of Jackson, Rick (Martha) Adams of Potterville, Calif.; two daughters, Gayle (Mike) Unverferth of Gordonville, Jean Ann Adams of Villa Park, Ill.; a brother, Leroy (Debbie) Adams of Young Harris, Ga.; a friend, Naomi McClard of Jackson; nine grandchildren, Zach (Stacey) Adams, Kim Adams, Dustin Adams, Nathan (Andrea) Adams, Joshua Adams, Jacob Adams, Matthew, Nicholas and Andrew Unverferth; a stepgranddaughter, Heather White; and a great-granddaughter, Madelynn Grace Adams.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion service will be held at 7, followed by parish prayers at 7:30.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with Monsignor Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery, with full military honors by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri Military Honors Delta Team.
