Leola Ludeen "Lou" Baker, beloved mother, wife and Grammie, was the daughter of James Arnold and Cleora Hill Arnold. She was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Broseley, Missouri. She entered God's kingdom Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 87.
Lou was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She worked as a telephone operator for many years and retired after almost 23 years at Drury Reservation Center in Cape Girardeau.
On July 14, 1962, she was united in marriage to Emmet "Bill" Baker in St. Louis. He preceded her in death May 10, 2013.
Survivors include one son, Bill (Jamie) Baker of Scott City; one daughter, Sherry (Scott) Holder of Scott City; five grandchildren, Kelly (Cory) Hatcher, Morgan Baker, Ann Baker, Ashley Vetter and Ben Vetter; and one great-grandchild, Lyle Hatcher.
Besides her husband and parents, Lou was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel, Elihue and Fred Arnold; and by five sisters, Lura Mabrey, Irene Janes, Lorell Patterson, Areva Elliott and Viola Arnold.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at the chapel, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Private interment will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
