SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lee "Jake" Pattengill, 85, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his home in rural Sikeston.
He was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, to William Channing and Nellie Pray Pattengill.
Pattengill lived and farmed in Southeast Missouri his entire life. With the help of his wife and four sons he established Northcut Farms Inc. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and served as deacon.
He was the last living member of the charter committee that formed the Scott County Soil and Conservation, had served many years as a board member of the R-4 school district, and was a former member of IOOF Lodge, Progressive Farm Credit Service (PFCS) and Missouri Extension Agriculture Service.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Merchant Marines.
On Oct. 23, 1947, he married Lula Jane Daniel. She preceded him in death Dec. 20, 2009.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Tina Pattengill of Scott City, Bill and Diana Pattengill of Park Hills, Mo., Boyd and Michelle Pattengill of Benton, Mo., Joe Wade and Barbie Pattengill of Whitewater; four sisters, Alice Hopper and Evelyn Zimmerman of Cape Girardeau, Marie Cook of Yuma, Ariz., Ruby Hitt of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one expected in September; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Unity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Lowe, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Care, Susan Care, Justin Pattengill, Jacob Pattengill, Brandin Pattengill, Daniel Pattengill and Jess Pattengill.
