Lawrence Meier, 93, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Jackson, son of Fredrick Adolf and Louise Fisher Meier. He and Doris E. Hupp were married Nov. 1, 1947.
Lawrence attended the former Tilsit and Sandy Ridge Grade Schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from January 1941 until being honorably discharged in 1945.
He hauled freight for the former L.A. Tucker Truck Line from 1947 until 1977. He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson since 1954, a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 in Jackson and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include two sons, Ralph M. (Sandy) Meier of Vilonia, Ark., and Larry D. (Kathy) Meier of Jackson; a daughter, Alice L. Hodges of Jackson; four grandchildren, Letitia (Nick) Pleis, Scott (Dianna) Hodges, Brandy Hodges and Kristi Meier; and a great-granddaughter, Liliana Hodges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion Honor Guard service will be at 7.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery, with full military honors.
