Lawrence Brookins Sr., 89, of Fulton passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Audrain County to William and Julia Phelps Brookins.
He worked as a fabricator for Danuser Machine Co. for many years. He spent his last years working as a janitor for Presbyterian Manor and finally decided to retire at the age of 80.
Lawrence was strong in his faith and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching baseball and football games. He loved to go fishing and play the piano. Lawrence was known for his jokes and could make anyone laugh. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time and making lasting memories with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Lawrence Brookins Jr. (Willetta) and Vincent Brookins (Eddith); daughters, Rhonda Butler, Carla Brookins (Walter) and Kay Brookins Daniels (Norris); sisters, Ida Holden and Joyce Anderson; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Ronald and Donald Brookins; brothers, William Brookins Jr., Clarence Brookins and Theodore Brookins; sisters, Katherine Rowan, Margie Brookins ad Alma Williams; and son-in-law, Pastor William Butler Jr.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at John C. Harris Community Center, 350 Sycamore St., in Fulton.
