CHAFFEE, Mo. -- LaVerne Matthews Ostendorf, 93, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 29, 1909, at Chaffee, daughter of Sylvester and Elizabeth Owens Matthews. She and Harry Ostendorf were married Aug. 20, 1927, in St. Charles, Mo. He died in July 1980.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Keith and Tracy Ostendorf of Troy, Mo., Ronnie and Becky Ostendorf of St. Louis, Sandra and Steve Keith of Park Hills, Mo.; a brother, Edwin Matthews of Liberty, Mo.; five sisters, Loraine Halter of Cape Girardeau, Christine Unnerstall of Hot Springs, Ark., Virginia Phillips of Morley, Mo., Edith Lansmon of Cape Girardeau, Gloria Daub of Chaffee; and six great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews including two heart nieces, Angelica Carpenter of Fresno, Calif., Jane Radigan of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Clara Lee Schulte of Lead Hill, Ark.; two dear friends, Mary Lee Agner of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Ginny Cadwell of Bismarck, Mo.; other church family and friends of Bismarck St. John's Parish.
She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Ostendorf, Nov. 27, 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bismarck St. John's Catholic Church. Interment will be in Lake Charles Memorial Park in St. Louis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church in Bismarck or the charity of one's choice.
Shipman Funeral Home in Bismarck is in charge of arrangements.
