EAST PRAIRIE -- LaVerne Hobgood, 82, of East Prairie Route 1, died Saturday, July 13, 1991, in the Baptist Memorial Hospital at Memphis, Tenn., following a brief illness.
She was born May 20, 1909 in Cleveland, Ark., daughter of William Thomas and Verda Brents Brice.
On Dec. 13, 1958, she married Oliver C. Hobgood, who died on Feb. 8, 1982.
She had lived in Mississippi County for the past 39 years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in East Prairie and was active in the Sixty Plus Center in East Prairie.
Surviving are four sons, Charles and Joe Rhoden and Nathan and Brice Moore; three daughters, Johnnie Hood, Alma Sanders and Shirley Matteson; a brother, Ira Brice; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, four brothers and one sister.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Thompson, pastor of the Assembly of God Church in East Prairie, officiating. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
