Lavanda C. White, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau.
He was born June 23, 1929, near Rector, Arkansas, to the late Chester and Vivian Benson White. He and Elizabeth Ann Abernethy were married March 2, 1951, in Caruthersville, Missouri.
Lavanda served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a walking mailman for the Caruthersville Post Office for 30 years. After retirement, he worked for the Caruthersville Fire Department for 10 years as an engineer.
He was active in Lynwood Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 88 in Caruthersville.
Loving survivors include his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Ann White; sons, Van (Mary) White and Drew (Robin) White, both of Cape Girardeau; sister, Shirley Sowell of Blytheville, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Jordan (Stephanie) White, Jacob (Jennifer) White and Chelsea White.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park.
