Laura Niswonger

Laura Edith Niswonger, 95, of Cape Girardeau, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, April 29, 2012, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born May 2, 1916, near Sedgewickville, Mo. to Simon Peter and Nora Bea Statler Propst.

She married Guy Eugene Swaim in Cape Girardeau on June 24, 1933. He passed away in February 1958. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Phyllis Marie Oliver. On March 9, 1963, she married Floyd Wayne Niswonger and their marriage lasted 40 years. He died Aug. 6, 2003.

Laura had worked for International Shoe Factory for 20 years, retiring in 1963.

After retirement, Floyd and Laura traveled extensively throughout the country, Mexico and Hawaii and spent their winters in Florida. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, crocheting and needle point.

She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church and attended Sunday school regularly and enjoyed the monthly "Show & Tell" meetings.

Survivors include: daughter, Phyllis (Jerry) Oliver of Jackson; stepson, Donald (Carol) Niswonger of Naperville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Crystal Daniel, Jeffery (Cindy) Oliver and Jay Oliver; three great-grandchildren, Cory (Kristan) Daniel, Caleb (Nikkie) Daniel and Stephen (Casey) Oliver; two great-great-grandchildren, Maysn Daniel and Kylee Oliver; sister, Anne Hedrick, of Mantica, Calif.; and step-daughter-in-law, Betty Niswonger of Raleigh, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; stepson, Jerry Niswonger; brother, Earl Propst; and sister, May Brown.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating.

Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
