OKAWVILLE, Ill. -- Laura Macke of Okawville departed this life at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at the Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Nashville, Illinois. She had attained the age of 103 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Laura was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Okawville, the daughter of William and Carolina Schilling Obermeier. She was baptized in Ebenezer Lutheran Church on Sept. 13, 1914, in rural Okawville, and confirmed there April 10, 1927. Laura was united in marriage to Otto Macke on Sept. 19, 1953, in St. Stephen Lutheran Church in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1974.
Laura was a homemaker. She and Otto had resided in St. Louis, but then moved to Cape Girardeau, which was Otto's former hometown. Following Otto's passing, Laura moved back to Okawville in 1975 to live with her sister. Laura enjoyed her final years at Friendship Manor, and loved visiting with the residents and her many friends who would stop by.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to share a joke. She was also quite an accomplished pinochle player. Laura was devoted to her faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville.
Left to mourn her passing is her nephew, William Obermeier, and wife, Karen, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and her niece, Beverly Campbell, and husband, Joe, also of Cheyenne; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; several cousins; and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Obermeier, and a sister, Ella Schrader.
In accordance with Laura's wishes, cremation will be performed and interment of ashes will be at a later date in Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville. There will be no local services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville, which is in charge of arrangements.
