FLORISSANT, Mo. -- Larry Ray Ruebel, 68, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at his home in Florissant with his loving wife beside him.
Larry was the youngest child of Raymond and Wilda Roberts Ruebel. He was born March 4, 1955, at Saint Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Both parents preceded him in death.
He was a 1974 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, where he was active on the wrestling team.
From 1974 to 1983, Larry worked in numerous positions at Southeast Missouri State University, saving his money to pay for tuition at SEMO, where he took classes in electrical/electronics, his passion. He loved working with his hands, figuring out how things worked and perfecting them.
In the fall of 1981, he met the love of his life, Susan Ohmart, at Baptist Student Union at SEMO. They were married Aug. 27, 1983.
In 1984, the couple moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where Larry attended Oklahoma State Technical School. There he received a two-year degree in electrical/electronics, making the honor roll at the school.
In 1986, Larry and Susan moved back to Cape Girardeau. Jobs were scarce, so both worked odd jobs.
In 1988, Larry landed his dream job as an electrical assembler for Mark Andy Inc., making industrial-sized printing presses. He worked at Mark Andy until his retirement in 2010.
Larry is survived by his wife, Susan, of almost 40 years. There were no children to this union. He is also survived by a sister, Sherry Nuckolls of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Jack (Karen) Ruebel of Cape Girardeau; mother-in-law, Edna Ohmart of Cape Girardeau; and two sisters-in-law, Linda (Steve) Hope of Jefferson City and Elaine Prenger of St. Charles, Missouri. Other survivors include 12 nieces/nephews, 12 great-nieces/nephews, nine great-great-nieces/nephews, plus many cousins and lots of friends.
Larry chose to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
