Larry E. Kuntze, 84, of Tilsit passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, Florida, surrounded by family.
He was born May 21, 1940, in Tilsit, the son of Alvin August and Thekla Lange Kuntze. He and Loretta V. Lange were married April 21, 1963, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. They were married 53 years, when she passed away May 16, 2016.
Larry attended Jackson High School. He started working at Monroe Glass Co. and then worked for Penzel Construction. He started his own business, Kuntze Excavating Co., and worked for 25 years.
In addition, he loved his community and helped the volunteer fire department and police departments, when his equipment and services were needed. He plowed many church parking lots and streets during the winter months.
Larry was a 32nd-degree Mason. He owned a country music hall on Highway 25 for several years. He loved to socialize. He loved telling jokes and writing poetry and loved to share his published poetry books.
Loving survivors include his daughter, Pamela (Bradley) Eggimann of Lynn Haven, Florida; son, Jared (Diane) Kuntze of Bradenton; brother, Gerald “Butch” (Patty) Kuntze; and sisters, Mabel Fisher, Laverne Calvert, Verla Davidson, Janice (Kenneth) Cheney, Karen (Noel) Scott, Karla Kuntze and Bonnie (Donnie) Wynn. Surviving grandchildren include Malinda (Nathan) Folkert of Tallahassee, Florida, and Matthew Eggimann of Lynn Haven. Other survivors include brother-in-law, Steve (Pam) Lange, and sister-in-law, Ella Mae Kuntze.
Larry was also quite fond of his many nieces and nephews and had many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Kuntze; brother, Kenneth (Ella Mae) Kuntze; and sisters, Marian (Earl) Aufdenberg, Nancy Krauss and infant, Gloria Jean Kuntze.
A memorial visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Burgess officiating.
