Larry Thomas Holmes, 63, of Scott City died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his home after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
He was born Jan. 21, 1949, at Louisville, Miss., the son of James Young and Esther Marie Hilliker Holmes. He married Helen Rose Dirnberger on Dec. 27, 1969 at Chaffee, Mo.
Larry worked as a manager for General Plastics for 25 years and in 1996 started Coast to Coast Signs and operated it until he retired in 2008.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Amy (Brian) Brinkley of Wentzville, Mo., and Loretta (Robert) Lents of Jackson; two grandchildren, Blake and Kari Leigh Brinkley; two sisters, LaVetra Piper and Leslie Lacey, both of Scott City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Vernon Moore; a brother; and four sisters.
Friends may call from 4:30 p.m. until service time today at Amick Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Hoyt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
