ESSEX -- Funeral service for James Kenneth Vaughn of Essex will be held at 10 a.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter. The Rev. Ronnie Ledbetter will officiate, with burial in Essex Cemetery.

Vaughn, 70, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, in Essex.

He was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Essex, son of George and Florence Menley Vaughn. He and Sandra Patterson were married July 22, 1984.

Vaughn had lived in Essex most of his life, and was a retired auto mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Kenny Vaughn of Virginia, James Vaughn Jr., David and Kevin Vaughn of Essex, Arlyn Vaughn of Dexter, Allen Vaughn; four daughters, Crystal Vaughn of Essex, Diane Kilkenny of Fayetteville, Ark., Tammy Overby of Bell City, Shirley Robertson of Winston-Salem, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
