Kenneth Garrett, 79, of Jackson died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Friendship, Tennessee, son of Ocle Franklin and Frankie Garrett. He and Avis Hartlein were married May 15, 1958. She preceded him in death Feb. 22, 1991. Kenneth Garrett, 79, of Jackson died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Friendship, Tennessee, son of Ocle Franklin and Frankie Garrett. He and Avis Hartlein were married May 15, 1958. She preceded him in death Feb. 22, 1991. He then married Alice Carnell on Jan. 4, 1992.

Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1954 to 1957.

He worked in the grocery division at Malone & Hyde 33 years before retiring, after which he moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and was a courier for Dr. Tony Raben until he returned to Missouri in 2011. He was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

Survivors include his wife; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Dennis and Karolyn Garrett and Tracy and Bethany Garrett of Perryville, Missouri, Don and Karen Carnell of Cape Girardeau, Randy and Vonda Carnell of Jackson and Rick Carnell of Fayetteville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Garrett and Keith Duke of Matthews, Missouri, Wanda and Jim Houston of St. Charles, Missouri, Kathy and Mark Fausett of Jackson, Cindy and Tony Raben of Fayetteville and Mona and Greg Carnell of Matthews; a brother, Buford Garrett of Munford, Mississippi; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Ron Carnell; two brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, Missouri. The Rev. Don Slatten of Paragould, Arkansas, and the Rev. Vernon Long of Freewill Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau will officiate. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Dan Garrett, Phillip Garrett, Randy Carnell, Michael Carnell, Mark Fausett and Keith Duke.
