The Rev. Kenneth C. Johnston, 72, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Nov. 18, 1995, at the Cape Girardeau Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Cape Girardeau to Martin P. and Anna V. Henson Johnston. On Sept. 1, 1948, he married Joy Hahs.
A Methodist minister, he served Missouri Methodist congregations in California, Neosho, Joplin, Platte Woods and Webster Hills. He also served as Kansas City North District superintendent and as vice president at Central Methodist College. He concluded his ministry in the Cape Girardeau area as district superintendent. In retirement he worked briefly to support the Missouri United Methodist Foundation and collaborated with Epworth Children's Home to develop a family services ministry in East Prairie.
He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and from the Divinity School of Yale University and received an honorary doctorate from Central Methodist College. He served in the U.S. Army tank corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Johnston of St. Louis; a daughter, Susanna Johnston of Chillicothe; a brother, Harold Johnston of Guymon, Okla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Centenary Methodist Church, with the Revs. Neil Stein, Mary Ellen Meyer and Gerrol Boehmer officiating. Burial will follow in Lorimier Cemetery.
