Kathryn Werner

Kathryn "Katie" Werner, 86, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau

She was born Aug. 22, 1936, daughter of Henry Otto and Hedewege "Hattie" Niederstadt Petzoldt. She and Wilfred Werner were married Aug. 24, 1957, in Altenburg, Missouri. He preceded her in death Sept. 23, 2005. Their union was blessed with two children, Laurie Hill and Timothy Werner.

She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. She was an avid gardener and loved baking.

Loving survivors include her two children, Laurie (Donald) Hill of Cape Girardeau and Timothy (Jody) Werner of Jackson; four grandchildren, Bradley (Lori) Hill of St. Petersburg, Florida, Joshua (Rachel) Hill of Jefferson City, Missouri, Amy (Tom) Ratledge of Jackson and Angela (Cory) Finch of Live Oak, Texas; four great-grandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Katie was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Werner; three sisters, Henrietta Conners, Myra Bunn and Pauline Thurm; and a brother, Eugene Petzoldt.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at the church, with Pastor Frank Lucus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
