SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Kathryn Cobble Hagans, 91, of Springfield, formerly of Jackson, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in Springfield.
She was the daughter of Guy M. and Annie Howard Cobble, born Aug. 30, 1921. She lived most of her life in Jackson, graduating from Jackson High School in 1939.
She received a teaching degree from Southeast Teachers' College in Cape Girardeau. On Jan. 2, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, John E. Hagans, who survives.
Kathryn taught English and drama at Oak Ridge and Jackson high schools, followed by many years as a fourth-grade teacher in Jackson public schools, retiring in 1983. She was a longtime active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, teaching all ages of Sunday school and participating in various "women of the church" activities. She enjoyed gardening, canning, needlework and doing puzzles. Even as her health declined, she maintained her great sense of humor and loved writing letters to family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, John E. Hagans of Jackson; a son, John Cobble (Melody) Hagans of Jackson; two daughters, Betty Ann (David) Carleton of Springfield, and Martha Sue (Brennan) Colyer of Farmington, N.M.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. The Rev. Grant Gillard is officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Roof Fund at the First Presbyterian Church, 206 E. Washington, Jackson, MO, 63755.
