SCOTT CITY -- Katheryn Dale McDowell, 44, of Rochester, Ill., died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She was born April 9, 1955, in St. Louis, daughter of Walter and Bonnie Rose Link Johnston Jr. She and Neal Aron McDowell were married Dec. 25, 1983, in Jackson.

McDowell was a registered nurse in the Emergency Room at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.

She was formerly of Scott City. McDowell attended John A. Logan and Lincoln Land Community Colleges, and received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from St. John's School of Nursing in 1996.

McDowell attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield, Ill., and was active in fund raising with the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Shawn Miller of Osage Beach, Justin McDowell of Louisville, Ky., Kyle and Gabriel McDowell of Rochester; a daughter, Jodi Miller of Osage Beach; her mother of Scott City; a brother, Matthew Johnston of Cape Girardeau; maternal grandmother, Ada Link of Bonne Terre; three sisters, Diana Miller of Jackson, Debbera Miller and Donna Braun of Scott City.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ted Gall officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests all memorials and donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
