MOUNDS, Ill. -- Karen Muriel Adkinson, 50, of rural Mounds died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 22, 1951, in Cairo, Ill., daughter of Norman and Bertha Thompson Seavers. She and Scottie Eugene Adkinson were married Feb. 21, 1976. He died July 21, 1996.
Adkinson was a 1969 graduate of Cairo High School, attended Shawnee Community College in Ullin, Ill., received a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and was pursuing a master's degree at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, its choir, Pastor's Aid Society, was a youth adviser and assistant church clerk. She was also a member of Epsilon Lambda Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelby Adkinson of Mounds; two sons, Scottie Adkinson Jr. of Carbondale, Stuart Adkinson of Mounds; her parents of Cairo; a sister, Karla Patton of Cairo; a brother, Norman Seavers of Weston, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church on 19th Street. The Rev. Darryl K. Cox will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
