June Piper, 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 29, 1928, in Kentucky Bend, Ky., to the late Ira Dalton and Alma Grooms Laster Sr. She lived in Mississippi County before moving to Cape Girardeau in 1965. ...

June Piper, 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 29, 1928, in Kentucky Bend, Ky., to the late Ira Dalton and Alma Grooms Laster Sr.

She lived in Mississippi County before moving to Cape Girardeau in 1965. She worked several years as a private-duty nurse and was later employed with the Cape Girardeau School District at the Schultz Middle School cafeteria. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Charleston, and had more recently attended the Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

On Feb. 28, 1948, she married Richard Piper, who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1971.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Leta and Phil Wagoner of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters and one grandson-in-law, Laura Beth and Lance McClard of Cape Girardeau, Leslie Ann Wagoner of St. Louis; two great-grandchildren, Ainsley Rose McClard and Finn Graham McClard, both of Cape Girardeau; and her extended family, Graham and Evonne Wagoner of Cape Girardeau.

a brother, Dalton Laster, preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1989.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the IOOF Cemetery north of Charleston, under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Faust, pastor of the Charleston United Methodist Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
