Julia Ann James, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at her home.
She was born Sept. 5, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Frank Joseph and Mary Rose Eeftink Brockmeyer. She and Donald E. James were married Oct. 15, 1960, in Cape Girardeau.
Julia was a graduate of St. Mary's High School.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Campster Homemaker Club and served as a 4-H leader.
She worked at First Federal Savings and Loan for six years until starting a family. For the next 59 years, she devoted her time to raising her six children, spoiling the grandchildren and perfecting her angel food cake.
Survivors include two sons, Tom (Beth) James of Cape Girardeau and David W. (Stacy) James of Jackson; four daughters, Donna J. (Ralph) Essner of Scott City, Mary (Matt) Koenig of Gordonville, Betty A. (Kyle Koerber) Luhr of Waterloo, Illinois, and Alice (Kevin) Hope of Oak Ridge; five sisters, Bertha (Paul) Essner of Benton, Missouri, Frieda Seyer and Dorothy (Paul) Summer, both of Cape Girardeau, and Frances (Joe) Willenbring and Imelia (Charlie) Seyer, both of Jackson; brother-in-law, Joseph Schreckenberg of Hillsboro, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Ruth Brockmeyer; two sisters, Sr. Rose Francis Brockmeyer and Theresa Schreckenberg; and brother-in-law, Joe Seyer.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to the School Sisters of Notre Dame or the charity of choice.
