Joyce Peerman, 98, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019.
She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Cairo, Illinois, to Charles W. and Izona Stubblefield Hatcher. Joyce and John Leonard Peerman were married Aug. 1, 1943. He preceded her in death July 23, 1978.
Joyce was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church. She was former owner of the Cash Book Journal. Joyce was heavily involved in many civic organizations, loved history and was active in historic preservation. She loved caring for and making sure all the stray animals in her neighborhood were well fed and loved.
She is survived by her friend and neighbor of many years, Evelyn (Ralph) Wille of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant daughter who passed away at birth.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday at New McKendree United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Francis Hospice or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
