Joyce Lee Ludwig, 92, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, at the Monticello House in Jackson. She was born July 10, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to Thomas and Evelyn Cauble Boswell. She and John R. "Ray" Ludwig were married Aug. 28, 1948, and two children were born to their union, Thomas and Janey. While Thomas was attending college and Janey was in junior high school, Ray died of a massive heart attack. Joyce and Ray had been married nearly 22 years when he passed away April 27, 1970...

Joyce Lee Ludwig, 92, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born July 10, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to Thomas and Evelyn Cauble Boswell. She and John R. "Ray" Ludwig were married Aug. 28, 1948, and two children were born to their union, Thomas and Janey. While Thomas was attending college and Janey was in junior high school, Ray died of a massive heart attack. Joyce and Ray had been married nearly 22 years when he passed away April 27, 1970.

Raised in Cape Girardeau, Joyce was a 1946 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. She attended Southeast Missouri State University, where she played girls softball and basketball. After Ray's death, Joyce earned her nursing degree.

Joyce's career included working as a surgical nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri; Cottonwood Center and the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. After her retirement, she lived several years next door to her sister in Bonne Terre, Missouri, moving to Jackson in 2014.

Loving survivors include two children, Thomas (Christina) Ludwig of Jackson and Janey Ludwig (Brian) Clark of Fenton Missouri; six grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Ludwig of Cape Girardeau; Sarah (Michael) Risch and children, Luna and Elena, of North Carolina; Aaron Clark of Fenton; Daniel (Lisa) Clark and children, Kaitlyn, Sydney and Brennan, of St. Louis; Benjamin Clark of St. Louis; and Travis (Karen) Clark and son, Logan, of Afton, Missouri; and two siblings, Richard Boswell (the late Wanda Engram) of St. Charles, Missouri, and Madge Rose (the late Kenneth) McCall of Michigan.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to service time Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Pastor Mike Berry will conduct the funeral service at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

For those wishing to give memorials, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
