MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- Joy I. Gowin, 85, formerly of Olive Branch and Oblong, Ill., died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Merrillville, Ind.
She was born in St. Marie, Ill., Nov. 13, 1913, daughter of Bert and Minnie Lough Brownfield. She and William Gowin were married on Dec. 1, 1935. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1984.
She was a former school teach and bookkeeper.
Survivors included sons, Jere Gowin of Merrillville, Ind., and Barry Gown of Florida; and a sister, Jesse Neeley of Claremont, Ill.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter.
Friends may call at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong today from 3-5 p.m. and Monday until time of service.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Ray Watts will officiate, with burial in Oblong Cemetery.
