GRASSY, Mo. -- Joseph Author Stewart, 84, of Grassy died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at his home.
He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Cardwell, Mo., son of Joseph A. and Montie Wagner Stewart. He and Lula Bea Williams were married Aug. 28, 1947.
Joseph sold equipment and installed service stations. He was a member of VFW Post 5900, American Rifleman Association, past president of Grassy Neighborhood Watch, past president of Grassy Fire District, past president of Grassy Friendship Cemetery Association and member of Grassy Friendship Church.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Bea; three sons, Larry Joe Stewart of Aztec, N.M., Donald Ray Stewart of Grassy, William Alan Stewart of Glenallen, Mo.; two daughters, Joyce Hayhurst of McGregor, Texas, Linda Werth of Goshen, Idaho; three brothers, Oscar Stewart of Overland, Mo., Jerry Wagner of Mississippi, John Wagner of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sisters, Joan Freeman of Benton, Ark., Billie Birdsong of Jonesboro; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Tom and James Stewart; a daughter, Mary Stewart; two brothers, Dale and Gale Stewart; and a grandson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gene Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Grassy Friendship Cemetery, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 5900.
