ADVANCE, Mo. -- Joseph E. Scherer, 59, of Advance died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 14, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, son of Joseph and Bertha Glastetter Scherer. He and Jackie Metheny were married April 24, 1965, at Illmo.

Scherer was retired from Little River Drainage District.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joseph Scherer of Oak Ridge, John and Jason Scherer of Advance; three daughters, Theresa Scherer of Marble Hill, Mo., Sherri Neal of Morley, Mo., Jennifer Scherer of Bloomfield, Mo.; a brother, Larry Scherer of Palm Bay, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Bill Smith officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park.
