Joseph R. Kurre, 83, 539 S. Spring, died Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born June 25, 1912, in Cape Girardeau, son of William A. and Charlotte Poe Kurre. He and Fay Olive Ervin were married March 23, 1935, in Jackson. She died Feb. 2, 1984.
He received a bachelor of arts degree from Illinois College in Jacksonville in 1932.
Kurre had been editor of the Wood River, Ill., Journal, and then was traveling auditor and a store chief accountant with Montgomery Ward. After moving to Houston, Texas, he was controller for Standard Printing and Litho Co., was an inventory controller with Foley's branch of Federated Store, and retired as vice president of Cargill Printing and Stationery Co. of Houston. He returned to Cape Girardeau in 1979.
He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, and was an elder and treasurer seven years. He had been a member of the board of directors of FISH Volunteers since 1985, and had also served as secretary, treasurer and vice president of the organization.
Survivors include two cousins, Thelma Watkins and Glenn Kirchhoff of Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Louis Launhardt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
