PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Joseph M. Hayden Jr., 85, of Perryville died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 29, 1930, in McBride, Missouri, son of Joseph Frank and Emma Isabelle (Otto) Hayden Sr. He and Marie M. Winschel were married April 26, 1952. She survives in Perryville.
Joseph was a carpenter foreman at Kiefner Brothers Construction. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved woodworking and helping others.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 133 and V.F.W. Post 4282.
Other survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Dale) Schemel, Karen K. Hayden and Kindra Herzog, all of Perryville; one son-in-law, Ronald Niccum; four brothers and two sisters, Melvin Hayden and Merlin "Dub" (Velma) Hayden, all of Perryville, Lawana (Eldor) Mueller of Arnold, Missouri, Norman "Dude" (Ginny) Hayden, and Iona Beckerman and Roy (Ottalene) Hayden, all of Perryville; eleven grandchildren, Ryan (Mackenzie) Schemel, Aaron Schemel, Andrew Hayden, Amber Niccum, Ashley (Steven) Unterreiner, Janel (Josh) Erzfeld, Jessica K. Vernon, Kayla Meier, Joseph Herzog, Morgan Herzog and Megan Herzog; four great-grandchildren, Cole Schemel, Madalyn Schemel, Aiden Unterreiner and Brianna Kimmet; and one step-great-granddaughter, Aubrie Shenette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Denise Niccum; and four brothers, William, Harvey, Donald and Harold Hayden.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home, with a Catholic wake at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, with a rosary at 9 a.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan, CM, officiating.
Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military graveside service provided by American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team.
Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or St. Vincent School.
