Joseph Lee Childress, 72, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Sikeston, Missouri, died Saturday, March 24, 2018, at his home.
Born April 9, 1945, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Elmer and Mary Jane Stokley Childress, he had been employed by Universal Security in Cape Girardeau.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. He was a member of the Eagle Scouts and enjoyed playing tennis.
On June 7, 1972, he married Ginny Gleaton; she survives of the home.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Matt Rodden of Jackson; one sister-in-law, Margaret Childress of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Layne Joseph Sigman and Kal-El Rodden; and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Ross Childress.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
