Joseph Martin Carter, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Doniphan, Mo., son of Alvin L. and Edith Pearl Martin Carter. He and Elizabeth Estes Carter were married June 12, 1933, in Hollister, Mo. She died Dec. 20, 1992. He later married Mary Metz Crowe in 1993 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She died in 2004...

Joseph Martin Carter, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Doniphan, Mo., son of Alvin L. and Edith Pearl Martin Carter. He and Elizabeth Estes Carter were married June 12, 1933, in Hollister, Mo. She died Dec. 20, 1992. He later married Mary Metz Crowe in 1993 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She died in 2004.

Survivors include a son, the Rev. James Layton Carter of Ridgewood, N.J.; a sister, Betty W. Thompson of Higginsville, Mo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Saturday at 9 a.m.

Friends may call at First Presbyterian Church Saturday from 10 a.m. to service time.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Paul Kabo Jr. and the Rev. James Layton Carter officiating.
