CAIRO, Ill. -- Joseph C. "Jay" Bucher, 72, of Cairo, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born March 23, 1920, in Cairo, son of Joseph and Florence Barry Bucher.
Bucher was retired from the U.S. Post Office at Cairo. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651, and Cairo VFW Post 2649.
He was a veteran of World War II, and a retired master sergeant with Illinois Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Linda Swoboda of Cairo, Mary Pilotte of Oak Park; a son, Barry Bucher of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother of Cairo, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today. The rosary will be at 7, and Elks service at 7:30.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church. The Rev. Jerome Fortenberry will officiate, with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
