CAIRO, Ill. -- Johnny Lee "J.P." Posey Jr., 28, of Cairo died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at his home.
He was born March 17, 1980, son of the Rev. J.L. and Alberta Posey. He and Syreeta "Neece" Crossland were married March 1, 2008.
Posey was a 1999 graduate of Cairo High School and a member of the band. He attended Shawnee Community College.
He was a custodian with the Regional Office of Education and was a substitute for the Cairo School District. He was a member of First Praise Missionary Baptist Church, was a drummer in the church band, president of the choir and brotherhood, and was a former vice president of Zion District Baptist Association Laymen's Department.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; a brother, Victor Posey; four sisters, Lori Willis, Tasha Blake, Tysie Howard, all of Cairo, Adrienne Posey of Lawton, Okla.; and maternal grandmother, Daisy Guest.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather and great-grandparents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the church, with Claude Russell officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill.
Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
