JACKSON, Mo. -- Johnny Hester Alexander, 85, formerly of Sikeston, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at his home in Jackson. Born May 21, 1916, in Puryear, Tenn., son of the late Charlie Hester and Ollie Miller Alexander, he was a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, an early member of the Elks' Lodge, a lifetime member of the PGA and various civic organizations...

JACKSON, Mo. -- Johnny Hester Alexander, 85, formerly of Sikeston, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at his home in Jackson.

Born May 21, 1916, in Puryear, Tenn., son of the late Charlie Hester and Ollie Miller Alexander, he was a member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, an early member of the Elks' Lodge, a lifetime member of the PGA and various civic organizations.

He was the pro at Sikeston Country Club; Jonesboro, Arkansas C.C.; Milan, Tenn. C.C.; and Kimbeland C.C. in Jackson before retiring.

Dearly beloved husband of 65 years of Daveen Davis Alexander, who survives of the home in Jackson. Dear father of Phyllis Alexander (Garland) Castleberry of Front Royal, Va. Loving grandfather of Johnny (Carolyn) Castleberry, Patti Castleberry Hartle and Tod (Tina) Castleberry, all of Sterling, Va.; Christopher Castleberry and Scott Castleberry, both of Washington, D.C. Loving great-grandfather of Jack Alexander Castleberry, Ashley Hartle, Brett Hartle, Lindsay Castleberry and Brooke Castleberry, all of Virginia. Beloved brother of Ollie B. Friedlander of Columbus, Ohio, Pansy (Joseph) Schoenberg of Morley and Violet (Ronald) Dreschel of Hodgenville, Ky., and his sister-in-law, Frances Alexander of Sikeston.

Friends may call Friday, Nov. 9, after 5 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Graveside services with full military rites are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Johnny Hester, minister of Shady Acres Church of Christ, officiating.

The family of John Alexander requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Memorial Fund Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1905, or to the charity of your choice.
