EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for John W. "Jake" Hodges of East Prairie will be held at 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in Charleston. The Rev. Ted Wimberley will officiate, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery near Charleston.

Hodges, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1996, at Bertrand Retirement Home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Samos, son of Rube Lee and Edith Lucy Fellows Hodges.

Hodges had lived in Mississippi County most of his life. He was a retired salesman, member of VFW Post and Masonic Lodge in Charleston, and Eagles Aerie in Sikeston. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Hodges of Memphis, Tenn.; three daughters, Linda Rockett of Houston, Texas, Lucy Ledbetter of Sikeston, Janie Pemberton of Charleston; a brother, Joe Hodges of St. Louis, and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
