John E. Stinnett, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at his home in Jackson. He was born March 3, 1932, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Blondie and Jessie Gordon Stinnett. He and Faye Ward were married March 3, 1956, in Jonesboro, Ark. John served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from March 15, 1951 to March 4, 1955. John E. Stinnett, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at his home in Jackson.

He was born March 3, 1932, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Blondie and Jessie Gordon Stinnett. He and Faye Ward were married March 3, 1956, in Jonesboro, Ark.

John served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from March 15, 1951 to March 4, 1955. Although he served during the Korean War, he was actually part of the post-World War II occupation of Germany.

After his military service, John's first profession was residential construction in the Jonesboro area. He then attended and graduated from Harding College and was a gospel preacher in Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri from 1963 to 1975. In 1975, the family moved to Jackson and John became a residential contractor and developer in the Jackson area.

He was a faithful member of Jackson Church of Christ, serving as a deacon, elder, song leader and Bible class teacher.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Faye of Jackson; four children, Cindy (Joe) Ockay of Jackson, Mark (Kris) Stinnett of Wildwood, Mo., Joy Kaye (Scott) Watson of Jackson, Amy (Eric) Craft of Jackson; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nieces, Melanie (Doug) Umbarger of Springfield, Mo., Joy (Wayne) Wheeler of Kimberling City, Mo., Makala (Josh) Roberson of Jonesboro, Ark.; and a nephew, Jim (Kay) Ulmer of Springdale, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Gordon Stinnett; and a sister, Mary Ulmer.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Friday at Jackson Church of Christ, 310 N. Shawnee Blvd. in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church with Bryan D. McAlister and Edd Sterchi officiating.

Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Paragould (Ark.) Children's Home, Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould or Christian Family Services in St. Louis.
