John Alexander Simmons, 57, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at Southeast Hospital in Cape.

He was born June 8, 1961, in Chaffee, Missouri, son of Paul and Hermine Hodle Simmons. He and Shirley Richardson were married March 30, 2002, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

John was a lifetime carpenter, working with the Carpenters Local 1770, and was also a member of the Elks.

He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was known as a grill master and an excellent fish fryer.

John was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was an avid NASCAR fan, supporting Kurt Busch.

Loving survivors include his wife, Shirley Simmons; mother, Hermine Simmons; two sons, John "Alex" (Brooke) Simmons of Jackson and Caleb Simmons of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Destiny Simmons of Advance, Missouri; brother, Joe Simmons of Oran, Missouri; and sister, Dr. Connie Simmons of St. Louis. He is also survived by a grandchild, Beckett Simmons; a stepson, Matt Sissom of Jackson; and a stepdaughter, Tiffany Rodgers of Advance.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
