John Harold Rodgers, 81, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Cobden, Illinois, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at his home.

He was born June 25, 1935, in Chicago, the son of Francis and Loyola Powers Rodgers. He married Doris Bigler on Dec. 28, 1957, in Cobden.

John is survived by his loving wife, Doris Rodgers of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Kathy (Bill) Miller of Cape Girardeau and Claire (Charles) Boone of St. Charles, Missouri; grandchildren, Beth (Logan) Johnson, Mary McCollough and Eric McCollough; stepgrandchildren, Jason, Kedron, Stephanie, Chad and Michael; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul Rodgers; sister, Joan Rodgers; and brother, Norman Rodgers.

John was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served his country from 1958 to 1981.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Cobden, with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster No. 3455 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Anna, Illinois, and the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard. Everyone is asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden and at the cemetery.
