MARYVILLE, Ill. -- John M. Hobbs, 90, of Maryville, Ill., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Maryville Manor. He was born April 22, 1909, at Jackson, son of William W. and Barbara Poe Hobbs. He and Roselyn Johnson were married. She died in 1976. Hobbs formerly lived in Collinsville. He worked for the Mound City Supply in St. Louis and then for Thrift Homes in St. Louis, until retiring in the early 1980s. He taught school in Southeast Missouri and had volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program in Collinsville. Hobbs was raised in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Travaille of Wichita, Kan., a son, John K. "Kent" Hobbs of Macomb, Ill., two granddaughters and a grandson. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joseph Scheets officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fairview Heights, Ill.
