BENTON, Mo. -- John Alvin Kerby, 72, of Benton died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at his home.
He was born Jan. 7, 1938, at Benton, to Galen Ceebern "Slim" and Catherine Strosnider Kerby. He and Joan Marie Urhahn were married Aug. 30, 1973, in Metropolis, Ill.
Kerby was a riverboat captain with Cargill Grain, Upper Mississippi Towing Co., and ACBL.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John A. Kerby; a brother, Mike Kerby of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Nancy Ingemanson of Lawrenceville; and a grandson, Kyle Kerby.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Kerby, and a sister, Betty Cook.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Michael Casteel officiating. Burial will be in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery at Benton, with full military honors.
