John Joseph Haas, a lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau, suddenly passed away on February 10, 1999 while visiting in Ft. Myers, Fla. He was born on Dec. 1, 1934 in Cape Girardeau, the son of Alvin A. and Elma (Vandeven) Haas. He was married Joellen Clippard on July 14, 1956 in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Haas was a teacher. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #1111. He was graduate of St. Marys High School and Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education. He taught and coached at Oak Ridge, Delta and Notre Dame where he was the high school basketball coach and a longtime counselor and was the assistant principal at the time of his retirement in1987. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Tammie Haas, of Cape Girardeau; two daughters and sons-in-law, Toni and Robert Arnold of Cape Girardeau and Diane and Larry Neal of Oriole; two brothers, Kenneth Haas of Cape Girardeau and Harold Haas of Chaffee; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Christoff of Cape Girardeau and Joan Lane of Festus; seven grandchildren, Lacy Neal, Lance Neal and Lindsay Neal, all of Oriole; Zach Arnold, Tyler Arnold, Gabriel Haas and Trevor Haas, all of Cape Girardeau. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alvin Haas of Cape Girardeau.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery.
