John P. "Jack" Hume Sr., 74, of Jackson died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Florissant, Mo., son of Edward and Margaret Patterson Hume. He and Mary Burnett were married Aug. 15, 1959. She died Oct. 21, 2003...

John P. "Jack" Hume Sr., 74, of Jackson died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Florissant, Mo., son of Edward and Margaret Patterson Hume. He and Mary Burnett were married Aug. 15, 1959. She died Oct. 21, 2003.

Hume served in the U.S. Air Force from May 1951 to October 1952, honorably discharged as an airman first class. He was a retired truck driver for North American Van Lines, manager of the former Coleman's BBQ in Cape Girardeau and was a salesman for Brinker Tractor Sales in Florissant.

Survivors include two sons, John "Pat" Hume Jr. and Scott Hume, both of Jackson; three daughters, Laurie Christenson of Gillette, Wyo., Julie Hume of Murphysboro, Ill., Amy Sparks of Jackson; a brother, Gib Hume of Harvester, Mo.; a sister, Mary Lou Boone of Branson, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond Epps and R.L. Robinson officiating.

Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery with the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating and with military honors.
