John J. "Joe" Houlihan, 92, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born June 12, 1909, in Gainesville, Texas, son of John J. and Alice McGeary Houlihan. He and Nell Hazel Norvell were married Aug. 29, 1923, at St. Vincent's College in Cape Girardeau.
Houlihan served in the 4th Army Division from 1943-45, with tours in France, Central Europe and the Normandy campaign. He was awarded five Bronze Stars. Houlihan was a lumber inspector with the National Lumber Association, Leming Lumber Co., and P.L. Bruce Co. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
Survivors include his wife and one brother, Bernard Anthony Houlihan of Northland, N.H.
Friends may call at the Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today with parish prayers at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral on Monday, with Monsignor Richard Rowling officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Delta Team.
