ORAN -- Funeral service for John Franklin Houck of Oran will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Oran. The Rev. Ed Carter will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Jack Bishop. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran after 5 p.m. today.
Houck, 97, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at St. Bernard Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
He was born Oct. 15, 1899, near Allenville, son of Frank and Anna Salina Pope Houck. He and Dixie Lee Bissell were married Jan. 9, 1934. She died Sept. 26, 1994.
Houck was self-employed and owned several businesses in Oran for 33 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church; Pleasant Side Masonic Lodge in Pleasant Side, Ala.; was past president of Oran Chamber of Commerce, and was a former Oran Man of the Year. He served three terms on Oran City Council.
Survivors include a daughter, Gaylene Davis of Jonesboro; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
