John G. Cooksey
BENTON -- John G. Cooksey, 90, of Benton and formerly of Sikeston, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.
He was born Aug. 29, 1908, at Statonville, Tenn., to John Matthew and Daisey Mae Garner Cooksey.
He married Maggie Hughes on March 14, 1932, at Savannah, Tenn.
He had been a certified welder at an aluminum plant and also had worked as an automotive mechanic.
He was a member of North Acres General Baptist Church in Sikeston.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Venita Jean Duke of The Dalles, Ore.; two sisters, Beatrice Richards of Sikeston and Reva Harris of Benton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
Visitation is Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jimmie Trotter of North Acres General Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
