WYATT -- Funeral service for John Dee Franklin Sr. of Waverly, Tenn., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Leroy Thornton will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.

Franklin, 68, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

He was born June 12, 1929, in the Birds Point community of Mississippi County, son of Harry and Gertrude Riggs Franklin. He first married Mary M. Wicker, who died Feb. 9, 1977. He and Frances Harrington were married Oct. 5, 1982.

Formerly of Wyatt, he lived most of his life in Mississippi County. He had been a boat captain with Midwest Towing Co. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Johnny Franklin of McEwen, Tenn.; two stepsons, James Harrington of Vanleer, Tenn., Michael Harrington of McEwen; four brothers, his twin Tommy Franklin of Charleston, Robert Franklin of St. Louis, Bill Franklin of Wyatt, Harry Franklin Jr. of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Betty Davis of Cairo, Ill.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.
