JACKSON -- John E. Cox, 78, Jackson Route 2, died Friday, Feb. 7, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Jan. 30, 1914, near Advance, son of C.C. and Alpha Winfred Zimmerman Cox. He and Melba A. Swindell were married April 12, 1943, in Battle Creek, Mich.
He worked for Uniroyal Tire in Detroit, Mich. for 32 years before retiring.
Cox had farmed and worked in trucking, and operated Green Cox Grain Elevator near Advance with his father. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses at Jackson.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, C.G. Cox of Advance, Lee Cox of Warren, Mich.; five sisters, Mary Crosswhite, Ilene Hitt and Virginia Smith of Advance, Ruby Johnson of St. Ann, and Lillian Smith of Overland.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. James Campbell will officiate, with burial in Green Cox Cemetery near Advance.
